There are increased risks of congenital malformations, neurodevelopmental disorders and being small for gestational age in children whose mothers are taking anti-seizure medication during pregnancy.
- Pharmacists are in a key position to support medicine safety in pregnancy. Everyday dispensing interactions provide opportunities to start important conversations, reinforce pregnancy warning labels, and support timely referral back to the prescriber when needed.
- Since April 1st - The Cautionary and Advisory Label (CAL) 19 is required on all dispensing’s of the eight highest risk anti seizure medicines, regardless of indication.

PHARMAC has advised of a supply constraint affecting progesterone (Utrogestan®) 100 mg capsules. From 1 May 2026, monthly dispensing will apply to help manage available stock.
